Book Review and Giveaway! Fillet of Soul: AfroVegan

Fillet of Soul: Afro Vegan is Wheeler del Torro's (of Vegan Scoop fame) newest book.  Note that I say book, and not cookbook.  Because this is more than a cookbook.  Yes, there are recipes, and I will get to those in a minute, but this book is more of a personal look into the experiences del Torro has had with food as he has traveled around the world.

Sesame Sriracha Cream Cheese Bacon Scallion Puffs

Because sometimes you just want something that tastes good and takes very little effort. I mean they are called "convenience foods" for a reason, right?

These tasty little bites taste great warm, cold, or at room temperature, which makes them the perfect food to make as an appetizer, bring to a party, or just make up a batch like me and my sister, June, did on my recent visit to Portland.  And since today is her birthday, I thought I would post this in her honor.

Recipes from the NYC Vegetarian Food Festival: Spicy Korean BBQ Jackfruit Tacos

Spicy Korean Barbecue Jackfruit Tacos. Photo Courtesy of Vegan Kitchen TV

My book tour for Fusion Food in the Vegan Kitchen ended with a bang in New York City at the fourth annual NYC Vegetarian Food Festival.  I met so many amazing people there.  I met so many people who already had many of my books, and I even met a couple who told me that I helped them go vegan. How inspiring! I am pretty sure there were close to 10,000 people in attendance over the
weekend.  You can check out some amazing photos, by Drew B. Photography, of the entire event here.

Austin Inspired Breakfast Tacos

Austin Inspired Breakfast Tacos

I am finally home from my book tour! (AKA, my epic journey across America.)  I am planning on writing a complete recap here on the blog soon, but I thought I would sneak in and post this lil diddy until then.  This post serves a few purposes.  One, to prove that it is easy to throw together a great meal in just a few minutes with just about anything you have in the house. Two, to use up the over 200 tortillas I still have left over from the New York Vegetarian Food Festival. And, three, to expose the rest of you to a phenomenon I only just learned about on a recent visit to Austin, Texas, that is the breakfast taco.

A Family Tradition of Sauerkraut and Dumplings to Ring in the New Year!

Sauerkraut and Dumplin's
Throughout my entire life I thought my family was the only one who ate this ridiculous dish every year on New Year’s Day. Come to find out, when I went to my mommy to get the beloved family recipe, she told me, “Hold on a second, let me get out my box of Bisquick, the recipe is on the side of the box.” HA! Well, when she and my Gramma Jo made it, they would make the “dough balls” floating in a broth of sauerkraut and pork. It is with my pleasure that I share with you this very top secret recipe, without the pork, of course.

Fusion Food in the Vegan Kitchen is finally out! (I think Barnes and Noble already has it in stock and is able to ship in time for Christmas.) I am so excited.  I am so in love with this book.  I hope all of you love it just as much.  You will be blown away with the photos, and the recipes aren't too shabby either.  I really think this book has more of "me" in it than just about anything else I've ever done.

If presents are something on your to-do list this holiday season, why not skip the mall this year and do some vegan gift giving DIY style?  After all, there really is no better way to spread the vegan love than with a chocolate chip cookie, or a basket of freshly baked muffins.

Gift Giving Made Easy! Vegan Cuts Beauty Box, Cruelty Free and Awesome!

Vegan Cuts

I know, I know, this is a vegan food blog, and lately I have been talking about a lot more than food.  Movies, products, and now make-up?  Well, yes. Because I know that veganism extends far beyond the plate.  Veganism is part of every aspect of my life.  From the products I use to clean my home, to the clothes I wear, and yes, even to my deodorant.
