VeganMofo Giveaway: a 2fer!

Tonight's dinner was completely uninspired.  A soggy sandwich that I forgot to bring to work for lunch today and a bowl of cereal.

So...tonight's post is a GIVEAWAY!  Leave a comment (on the Blog or on Facebook) telling me your favorite Thanksgiving dessert (because I am feeling uninspired for that meal as well) and I will pick 1 random winner to receive 2 copies of 500 Vegan Recipes...yep, 2.  That's one for you, and one to give away!

Yes, I will ship international.  I will pick a winner, at 10 pm PST on Friday 11/12/10.

Inspire me, people.

I love pumpkin cheesecake. Not a huge fan of traditional apple pie, but apple strudel hits the spot!

This year I'd like to work on a crunchy caramelized garnish for the cheesecake - bourbon based.

Andrea said...

I'd have to say last year's dessert of almond tuilles with pumpkin mousse is my new favorite.

Mmm... I love cranberry trifle the best! Don't know how to make it, but my aunt makes one every year for the potlucks. It's to die for...

Thank you for the lovely giveaway! If I could have a dream Thanksgiving, I wouldn't have dessert; I would instead have a Dr. Cow nut cheese plate. However, if this was not possible, I have never been able to resist pecan pie!

Apple or Pumpkin Pie - call me unadventurous but I don't really get to eat them other times in the year!

This year I made (for Canadian thanksgiving) a chocolate-pumpkin pudding (I had intended to make a pie but was too busy with the other courses to make a crust). It went over very well and was rather easy: blend together mori nu tofu, pumpkin, cocoa, maple syrup, cinnamon/nutmeg/cloves/ginger, throw in dark chocolate shavings, et voila!

pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese frosting! yum!

I really love my mom's fruit compote, there is a link to it on pakupaku.info if you wanna see it. It is basically canned fruit in a sugar simple, but it is amazing with stuffin' and all the trimmings and really easy to make, too.

I'm making the pecan pie from the Millenium cookbook with a bourbon sauce to go with it. If you want to get away from pie, a couple years ago I made a pumpkin roulade from Bryanna's Vegan Feast newsletter that was outrageously good.

Ali - YumVeggieBurger said...

not too surprising, but my favorite is pumpkin pie... followed by a slice of pecan pie! my grandmother always served both (large family) and I loved balancing the spice of the pumpkin with the overly-sweet sweetness of the pecan.

Tami said...

My favorite is cranberry cake with warm butter sauce, a family tradition that was easily veganized. The cake isn't overly sweet, but the rich and warm butter sauce is amazing. When I eat it, I'm reminded of my childhood.

Chai-chocolate raw cheesecake is so amazing. it's my seasonal fave

This is a GREAT give-away!
We don't have thanksgiving this side of the pond but I can imagine I'd want to make something light after all the delicious main course chowing that has been going on. So bearing that in mind I'd make something like Cranberry sorbet.

Vic Robinson said...

My nana's cherry pie. She used to bake one especially for me each year because I could not be trusted to share. I miss her.

ever since i made apple strudel the first time for christmas a few years ago i'm not allowed to come to holiday dinners without it! there also has to be something pumpkiny to satisfy me.

What a fab giveaway, all my friends are interested in vegan cooking now I've been sharing my delights! I'd love to give one of them a cookbook (as well as keep one for myself of course!). Well, we don't have thanksgiving over here in England but I think I would like to make a chocolate tart with a gingerbread crust..
That sounds yummy and a little seasonal :)

My favourite custard pie in a dessert bowl: black-forest cherry dessert. :)

We don't celebrate thanksgiving here... But I wouldn't say no to a pecan pie!

k, also kk, also kara, also kristina said...

My mom's pecan pie. I'm going home for Thanksgiving this year, and I'm planning on stealing a bunch of her recipes and veganizing them. This is definitely on my list.`

phoenix said...

In my opinion, you can never go wrong with vegan tiramisu. But then we don't celebrate Thanksgiving here, at least not the same way. If you want something more seasonal, I'd say cranberry trifle or gingerbread apple cake. :)

Jessica said...

Black Bottom Cupcakes (with chocolate chips in the cream cheese) were always a treat in my family on Thanksgiving. Now I veganize them and everyone loves them!

Vanessa said...

I'm Canadian so I already did Thanksgiving. This year I made the Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar pumpkin brownies! They didn't set properly unfortuantely (too hard to find tinned pumpkin in the UK so had to used jarred stuff that had the same consistency as baby food) but they were still great all goey served with ice cream. Everyone loved them! New favourite!

Kip said...

Whenever I'm back in the states for Thanksgiving with my family, I'd have to say it's all about the pies. That's mainly because I don't eat them so much here in the UK, so it's a novelty! mmm Pumpkin.

Katie said...

Pumpkin roll, yum yum!!

Anonymous said...

If it has to be traditional, then it has to be pumpkin pie. But my favorite dessert that I have eaten on thanksgiving had to be peanut butter cheesecake with a pretzel crust. It was a PITA to make, but sooooo worth it in the end.

Laura H-B said...

I like Your Vegan Mom's Chocolate Pecan Pie (http://www.yourveganmom.com/your_vegan_mom/2009/12/chocolate-pecan-pie.html) ! I add peanut butter to it, yummm!

Typically I say that my favorite is pecan pie, but this year I am looking forward to making gingerbread with pumpkin spice icing from Oh She Glows. I've already made it twice since she posted it and am addicted! I keep thinking about it! The frosting is so simple, yet so tasty! I may make it into a roll, just to be different for T-giving.

Yes, I know I'm dull, but Pumpkin Pie. Good, old fashioned, vegan pumpkin pie. Based on Bryanna Clark Grogan's recipe found here: http://veganconnection.com/recipes/pumpkin_pie.htm It's a winner every time!!

Fudge! My grandmother made the best fudge...

Chocolate is great but peanut butter is better.

I'm going to have to go with gingerbread cupcakes smothered in pumpkin icing. sooo yummy!

A relatively new Thanksgiving favorite of mine is the Pioneer Woman's Mashed Potatoes recipe. It can easily be veganized. It allows you to make your mashed potatoes the day before and free up more space/time in your kitchen on Thanksgiving day.

sara said...

i'm a fan of good ol' pecan pie. i never eat it any other time of the year, so it's a treat. this year, however, i'm being tempted into making apple pie with pecan crust. decisions, decisions!

Jessie said...

I'm a fan of cranberry desserts. I once made a cranberry=apple upside down cake that was a big hit.

I really just subbed out the pineapple for cranberries and apples in a basic pineapple upside down cake.

markustrombonus said...

Pecan Pie all the way.

Kristen said...

Definitely the pumpkin cheesecake from Fat Free Vegan Kitchen. Last year my family demanded I make another after they polished off the first one I made.

Stacy said...

My mom's sweet potato pie. It is sweetened with only real maple syrup and out of this world!

I would absolutely love to win the 500 Vegan Recipes!

pumpkin roll AND apples and walnuts rolled in phyllo dough....

Erin said...

Usually I would go with the standard pumpkin pie, but we have a friend who doesn't like pumpkin, so I've done cranberry-spice bundt cake in the past, and am thinking about the Gingerbread Apple Pie from Vegan With a Vengeance this year.

Pumpkin pie here too. But I usually use carrots because I seldom see pumpkins here. Something I would like to try is chocolate pumpkin squares.

Lisa Veggie said...

Apple crisp! Healthier than pie, and easier, too. I like the recipe in the Joy of Vegan Baking by Colleen Patrick-Goudreau.

Josiane said...

Pecan pie! I really need to veganize my grandma's recipe or to make up my own because I won't go without pecan pie again this year... or maybe I could follow the one in 500 Vegan Recipes - there must be a recipe for pecan pie in there, right? :)
Thanks for offering a chance at winning the book! I'd love to add it to my bookshelf, and I already know who'd be blessed with the second copy.

There is a really great dish in the November VegNews magazine from about 2 years ago. It was some sort of thing in a crust ... I'm not at home to find the title, but it's delicious. I've made it every year since I got the recipe.

Hmm, well, we don't celebrate Thanksgiving here in Australia, but can I make my ideal dessert up? A pecan ice with maple syrup in the filling and salted pecans on top :)

Anonymous said...

Thanksgiving is my excuse to make one of my faves, pumpkin pie...mmmm, pumpkin pie with the perfect flaky crust! And when I want something a little different...chocolate pumpkin pie, with same perfect flaky crust. Mmmm.

KittyPaws said...

Amazing apple dumplings that my mother makes. It is an old french recipe that encases cut apples in an amazing dough then sticky sauce is poured on top. She veganized it years ago for me!

Jesse D. said...

Derby Pie - essentially a sinful pecan pie with loads of chocolate chunks.

HeyitsBeth said...

I'd have to go with Tal Ronnen's recipe for Oven Roasted Banana Cheesecake with Spiced Pecan Crust and Maple Rum Sauce that got posted over on Vegansaurus. I mean, have you SEEN that thing?!? It's insane!

I'm going to be oh-so-original here and say pumpkin cheezecake. Specifically FFV's pumpkin cheezecake. Apparently I'm not the only one. :)

I've been eyeing 500 Vegan Recipes forever!

I like to keep it simple with good ol' pumpkin pie. I only wish I could remember which recipe I used last year that turned out phenomenal (as opposed to the one 2 years ago which was a giant FAIL).
