Cleaning off the bookshelf in 2013

I have decided not to make any resolutions this year.  They always seem to make me stressed out and feeling defeated.  Instead I am resolving to make small changes throughout the year that can only change my life for the better,  On of those things is cleaning off my bookshelf.  My bookshelf is starting to bow.  I need to get rid of a few books.  I can't bear to do it, but I found a few that I have 2 copies of, so I am willing to part with those.  Haha.  The rest, I may just pack up into boxes and store until I move into a bigger place, where I can display all of my books.

I realized I have 2 copies of Julie Hasson's beautiful and delicious Vegan Diner: Classic Comfort Food for the Body and Soul

I also found 2 copies of the wonderfully creative and talented Hannah Kaminky's My Sweet Vegan: Passionate About Dessert

Soooo, I am giving them away!

Leave a comment below telling me one small thing you are going to do to make your life better in 2013.  I am hoping to be inspired by some of your ideas and add them onto my own list.

I will choose 2 of you at random, on Sunday, January13, 2013 at 12 noon PST.  If you enter the giveaway, please make sure to check back and see if you won!  And, yes, I will ship internationally :)
Contest is now over...Congratulations to #19 (Randomly chosen by my husband, Dan) and to #32 (Randomly chosen by my nephew, Dominic!)

#19, CONGRATULATIONS!  You win a copy of Julie Hasson's Vegan Diner
I have always wanted to read those cookbooks and my library doesn't have a copy of either. Thank you for the chance to win! I am going to try to focus more on the positive this year...I tend to dwell on what went wrong, but this year I am going to try to think of at least 3 things I am grateful for or happy about each day before I fall asleep.

#32, CONGRATULATIONS!  You win a copy of Hannah Kaminsky's My Sweet Vegan
It's not an exciting change, but I am no longer eating after 10pm. I think this will help me take off the few pounds I put on over the holidays!

I can't really say that this is "one small thing to make my life better in 2013", because it surely is the biggest and greatest! My fiance and I are expecting our first baby (a little boy) and are super excited to be spending 2013 (and many many more years!) with him!

I have an intention rather than a resolution. I intend to create at least two pieces of art each month. I'd love to win a copy of Vegan Diner — I seem to have two copies of My Sweet Vegan, also!

Haha, I certainly wouldn't be willing to part with any cookbooks (unless like you they were duplicates!). This is a big year for me as I finish at university and move on to the next stage of my life :) Not sure exactly what I want to do yet but know that I want it to involve cooking vegan food. So I'm going to follow my dreams!
As for little things to make this year more awesome, I've decided to host a monthly vegan tea party for friends :D

One small thing that equals a big thing is to change my job.

I'm exercising more and taking steps to eat healthier. I'm hoping that this will make me healthier overall!

I just found your site through Pinterest and I love it. Can't wait to try your recipes!! One small thing I intend to do for 2013 is to be extra mindful of what I consume, both food and otherwise. I want to be sure my family is selecting the most appropriate things for our home that were made kindly and did not endanger fellow humans and creatures in the process. I am getting very angry with the current state of affairs where everything is made somewhere else and humanity is being degraded in the process. For my part, I hope to change at least what we consume and in the long run inspire others to do the same.

So, the thing I am going to change in 2013 is to try and live in the present moment every moment of my days. I tend to multi-task or dwell on things I can't control while I'm doing something else. For example, if I am eating a meal, I plan to focus on that meal and enjoy every bite instead of trying to work and eat or think about stuff I have to do while I eat.

I just registered for a meditation and yoga retreat - it will be my first vacation in two and a half years!

One small thing that I am doing this year is to wake up and quickly think of 4 things that make me happy AND 1 thing that I like about myself. It really helps me to start the day right and gets the positivity flowing. I would love either book as I am an avid cookbook collector :) Thank you and Happy New Year!

I am making myself stronger and be a good example for my little toddler. I spend so much time wishing I had a strong body and I realize I just committed and did it I'd be there already so now it's happening!

Thanks for the giveaway :)

I'm not doing resolutions either, but I'm trying to stay on top of cat hair this year. I need to vacuum a lot more than I do. it's my most boring chore, though :\

I'm going to eat more leafy greens and have fun with my new Vitamix! I already have Vegan Diner and love it, so I'd like Hannah's dessert book. :)

Oooh!! I have a few resolutions -- one is doing a two-week cleanse (in the middle right now), to jumpstart a healthier year and to prove to myself that I do have some will-power with food and don't need to have Daiya and Gardein and white rice, etc. on the reg. I'm also trying to read and write more. : ) I would love to add a book to my own meager cookbook collection! Fingers crossed!

I'd have to say... exercising. And not just to lose weight. My anxiety has been through the roof, I hate that I get winded walking up flights of stairs, and I need to be a better example for my patients at work.

I am going to be kinder to myself and not so rigid regarding food and exercise. I have been too hard on myself for far too long, and I want to celebrate my body for what it is!

So, my first comment on your blog :)
There are actually a few small things I'll try to do in 2013, mostly inspired by other bloggers.

First I want to make some sort of happy box, a box or jar (don't know yet) where i will put all the good things that happen in 2013 (written on paper). So, at the end of the year, or during the year if I need to cheer myself up, I can read some of them and remember what a good life I have. :)

Second, since I too have so many cookbooks (and still buying new ones...), I will try a little challenge in february and make at least 4 main dishes and 2 desserts per week, all new ones I didn't try before.

That's it for now, because we all know, if we make to many resolutions, we won't keep them.

Greetings from Luxembourg,
Danielle

This year I am focusing on my health and the health of my family. I am doing my best to make better choices in what we eat and be sure to get us off our behinds and doing some form of exercise. I also want to organize our home. I plan on having a garage sale to benefit Animal Place and then donate any items left to The ARF Store.

My one small change is being more active. Thanks for sharing your abundance with us, I would love either of those books!

I am going to take pictures of beautiful and interesting things I see everyday.(like shadows across the sidewalk, the first flowers of spring poking through the ground, ...) That way when I'm feeling down or overwhelmed I can look through them and re-center myself.

Menu plan! So each week will be organised in advance and mealtimes will be less stressful.

I am going to actually use my cookbooks this year! Pick recipes that I have bookmarked, see what ingredients I need (that I don't usually have), and try to incorporate at least 1 per week.
