Garbage Pizza

originally posted Saturday, October 21, 2006

Friday night I made pizza with a lot of the "garbage" in my kitchen. I was inspired by Leah & Tim's "Great Grocery Experiment" and only wanted to use stuff that was already in my kitchen.
Here are close ups of the pizza:

Ingredients:

  • Ready to bake whole wheat crust from Trader Joe's
  • Balsamic Hummus for the sauce (2 15oz cans garbanzos, 2 tbsp tahini, 2 tbsp olive oil, 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar, 2 tbsp lemon juice, 1 tbsp sea salt) Blended in a food processor until smooth and creamy.
  • Native Chi'is (3 cups water, 2 cups cashews, 1/2 cup lemon juice, 2 tbsp sesame oil, 2 tbsp nutritional yeast, 2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp onion powder, 1/2tsp garlic powder, 1 oz package of Agar flakes) Place 1 oz Agar flakes in water and bring to a boil, whisk occasionally, Grind cahews into a fine powder and mix with other ingredients, Pour into the water-agar mixture and mix until creamy and smooth, Pour into an oiled loaf pan and refrigerate)
  • Crumbled up leftover fried tofu,
  • shallots,
  • red peppers,
  • yellow peppers,
  • minced garlic & basil.
