  4. I liked the front of the old one, but I like the back of this one much better! :) (Sorry if that's unhelpful...) Still so excited!!

  5. I think its the bright purple that's throwing me off a bit... Sorry! I'll bet it looks better in real life.

    I love the wraparound, though!

  6. I like the back but the front is very orange/yellow. I'm not sure how that would be fixed. A bit of lettuce between the tomato and burger and some bbq sauce sqeezing out between the pickles up to and the bun.

    Just my two cents.

  8. Hi Joni,
I hope you know that I love you and that I don't mean to be critical in anyway--only constructive. However, since you asked for opinions, and since I want you to be extremely successful, I'm going to be honest.

I don't think this works at all. I think going with a macro shot is a bit confusing and unless it is in really sharp focus, looks a bit unappetizing. I think it would be better to go with one of celine's table shots instead.

  9. thanks for being honest! i need it. i really want to use one of celine's table shots. that's why i had her take the photos! i am simply having the most difficult time with this one. Arrrgh!

  10. Maybe use one of the top two images you have on the back cover? Those are both nice shots of burgers. My issue with your first celine cover was that the burger was a little wonky looking, and you blew the image out so big--the composition sorta got lost. The image doesn't have to take up the entire cover. You could have a solid area on top with the title over it and then a solid area on the bottom with your name over it. Just a suggestion. For instance, in the new one you posted yesterday, your name is lost over the image. Also, your book is all burgers, but you chose a shot that is so blown out, that you can't really tell what it's a picture of. You want the cover to say, "THIS BOOK IS ALL ABOUT DELICIOUS BURGERS!!"

Hope you don't mind the input, I'm no expert, but I think I have a good eye for composition.

  11. it's a much better looking burger, but i feel like it should zoom out just a bit. it looks great when you can see the front and the back but it's a bit too much when you see just the front - as most people will. definitely better though!

and again, i'm still buying it :)

  12. I agree with kittee. I think you need some empty space on the cover.
What grabs me in a bookstore, especially when looking for an 'information' book is clarity. I want to know what I'm getting and a first impression that is concise will stand out.
The title and your name should both be clear.
I think the shots on the back cover are lovely and would make a great cover. I like the back cover layout to give more examples, but I think a more minimalist approach on the front would be good.
I would also drop the wraparound and just have the column of text with the column of photos on the back.
Also, maybe just one color for both title and your name. I feel that would draw the eye more to the two. I like the white better than the red. It pops more.
    You'll work it out!

  13. Kittee and panda have said exactly what I was going to say. Don't worry Joni...it will all work out and be wonderful.

  14. okay...thanks for all of the feedback. The front of this one is scratched. I have a potentially stellar photo coming for the front. I will take all of your comments to heart when preparing it,,,and then, of course, i will again ask for your help!

    i <3 you guys!

  16. I love the whole thing. But I agree that some green on the front photo would be a good idea. I'm dying to get this book and start making my vegan burgers! Congratulations again and thank you for such a cool initiative!

  17. Looks like toppings, not a burger. I agree with pulling back. But looks yummy. :)

  18. maybe you should try just starting over fresh with some image ideas from the food network to get you started with what kind of look you want.

you probably need a fresh view at this point if things are still up in the air for the cover.. and people DO judge covers, we all know that.

if you want a specific idea, try nice and clean.. i read the phrase white space and really agree. when we think of food, i think, we want to believe its not going to get messy and the idea of buying a cook book gives us some 'control' so the image should also be.. and that would be pleasing to anyone considering buying it. they've probably had tons of disasters.

why not shoot a great bbq scene, nice shiny stainless cooker, blue sky, or some fruity drinks beside it. your title gave me another idea, just the food, you could also photograph the natural ingredients by themselves that you put on the burger. bright red tomatoes, red onions, crisp lettuce. all on seperate white plates and the cover could be 4 white plates. 3 with topping and the 4th with a delicious burger with a bite out of it!

sorry... i get a little excited about marketing. also sorry since you don't know me, but i thought i'd throw a subjective opinion in the mix if it helps.

  19. It is better from the first cover for sure... that burger looked like poop. I like the look of that one on the back that is second from the bottom for the cover, or the first one on the back. Good luck!
